Who We Are

John P. Williams, MD

Dr. John Williams, the founder of The Main Line Center for the Family, PC, attended Harvard College and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, completing an adult psychiatry residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He was a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Williams is board certified in general psychiatry and child & adolescent psychiatry, and is a past president of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, an international board certifying mental health clinicians in cognitive behavioral therapy. He is also a member of the Board of Pardons of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the author of Indefinite Postponement, A Case Study of Adolescent Suicidality (2018).

Married with three children, he enjoys family outings, running, and journal reading in his spare time.

Matthew L. Prowler, MD

Dr. Matthew Prowler is an independent practitioner and is excited to now operate his practice out of The Main Line Center for the Family Building.

Dr. Prowler attended Princeton University and Jefferson Medical College, completing an adult psychiatry residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Prowler has published numerous journal articles relating to psychopharmacology and has been an online contributor to The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Washington Post.

Dr. Prowler is board certified in general psychiatry and child & adolescent psychiatry, and certified in Structural Family Therapy.

He enjoys triathlon, music, ice cream and spending time with his wife and two children.
